This is my latest painting called “Sweet As Cherry Wine.” I did it in acrylic paint and the background is a mix of red and black watercolor paint. This took about 2 1/2 to 3 hours to do.
Often times my work is inspired by music. This one is inspired by “Cherry Wine” by Hozier. This wasn’t originally going to be a vampire but the line in the song goes, “Blood is rare and sweet as cherry wine” so I figured why not.
As I was working on this I ended up coming up with a story. It’s the writer coming out of me I guess. There’s a beautiful vampire who lures men to her, seduces them, and pretends to love them so that she can get their blood. She’s ruthless and evil. Then there’s one guy that she meets and she actually falls in love with him so she doesn’t kill him but takes enough of his blood that she won’t kill him. I think it fits the song very well.
I’ve wanted to do this for quite a while but I wanted to finish the Disney Princess project first.
I also discovered a painting trick that works very well that I want to share with you.
When you’re doing things such as shadows you don’t want harsh lines and I find them hard to blur with a paint brush. Instead take your finger, dip it into a little bit of water, and then just blur out the lines with your finger. Add more paint as needed and be as messy or neat as you need to be. All that finger painting we did in kindergarten is still useful today.
I hope you like this painting, comment and tell me what you think of it. Like on Facebook and follow on Instagram @_lifeisaworkofart_, and consider buying one of my paintings or drawings.
